Zootopia 2 – What We Know So Far

As you probably remember, Disney’s animated movie “Zootopia” turned out to be one of the major successes last year, so the sequel to this comedy-adventure is now one of the most anticipated titles. Byron Howard and Rich Moore, the directors of this film, confirmed that they had enough material to make Zootopia 2 and they both showed how excited they were about the upcoming project, positive that it will be at least as successful as the original.

Howard and Moore once explained that their original idea was to make a Disney classic like Robin Hood, but eventually, they had to change the plan and film something different, following Disney’s instructions and wishes. In order to do their job right, they spent two years in Africa learning about the different animals and how they coexist in the same inhabitance. The main goal of the crew was to deliver a strong moral of the story, but they claim “it was hard to capture the discrimination and Zeitgeist of bias without turning this movie into a ‘Message movie’.” In case you haven’t watched it, the film tackles the issue of racism and discrimination and how these affect people’s lives.

Here’s how the creators described their original project: “Zootopia breaks off the barriers and lets us go off it. We have seen many movies in which humans are dealing with emotions and hard times, however, this time animals are going through this.”

Zootopia 2 – what should we expect?

As previously mentioned, the team working on Zootopia original movie spent two years doing some research in Africa and needed five years overall to make the film, so if there’s one thing we can expect when it comes to the sequel, then that’s without a doubt the same level of commitment. We assume the crew might take a trip again in order to make another high-quality screenplay.

Furthermore, there is a possibility of the two main characters taking their friendship to the next level. However, this is only a guess, as none of the crew members actually confirmed that Nick and Judy would become more than friends. As Moore explained it, “there are some fans that want to see romance and others want to see no romance between them,” so it will be hard to please everyone.

As for the cast members, we hope most of the stars that made their contribution to the original movie will appear in the upcoming title, as well. Some of the actors who voiced the characters in Zootopia include Idris Elba, Jenny Slate, Ginnifer Goodwin, Bonnie Hunt, Jason Bateman, Shakira, Nate Torrence, etc. When asked about the sequel, Ginnifer Goodwin only said: “I want the script to be a little bit flipped off.” Well, we’ll still have to wait and see if her wishes came true.

Zootopia 2 Release Date

When it comes to the release date of the highly anticipated sequel, there have been no official announcements, and we believe it’s still too early to tell when exactly we can expect it to see the light of day. There are some speculations which suggest Zootopia 2 will hit theaters after Frozen 2, which is set for a 2019 release date as the studio is very busy with a large number of projects. Stay tuned for more details and latest news.
