Although Suicide Squad might have had some bad reviews from critics and audience, it has just got nominated for an Oscar, which is the most prestigious award in the film industry, as we all know.

Namely, it won’t be competing alongside Arrival or La La Land for Best Picture, so the film’s behind-the-scenes team will be rival with A Man Called Ove and Star Trek Beyond for Best Makeup and Hairstyling. From Margot Robbie’s getup as Harly Quinn to Jared Leto’s full face and body tattoos as the Joker, the actor transformations into their DC characters have been deemed magnificent enough to be put into the same basket with competitors for a golden trophy.

As we are all familiar with, Suicide Squad is about a group of villains recruited to help save the world from devastation. For only a couple of hours, the bad guys play the good guys. There is 26 percent approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, whereas fans seem to like it a bit more. Audience approval rating is significantly higher, amounting to 63 percent.

Believe it or not, the movie’s Oscar nomination came a day after Suicide Squad got two Razzie Award nominations – Worst Screenplay and Worst Supporting Actor for Leto. Let us remind you this is not so weird since in 2010 it was Sandra Bullock who got a Razzie for her role in All About Steve and an Oscar the very next day for her performance in The Blind Side.

Many people who worked on Suicide Squad had a lot of issues, and they came clean about them. Director David Ayer recently posted a long explanation on Twitter. He regretted not having made Joker the main villain and engineer a more grounded story. He admitted he had a lot to learn from this experience.

We will know who the Razzie winners are on Feb. 25, whereas the Oscars will air on Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. ET on ABC. Jimmy Kimmel will be the host.
