It doesn’t matter whether you are starting your own business or working for someone, there are certain habits one should have which pave the way to success.

Ask any Inc 500 entrepreneur and each and everyone will have certain habits in common which have driven them to their success. These habits haven’t just made them more effective at work but allowed them to live a well-rounded life.

One such entrepreneur, Sidd Pagidipati, provides us insights of habits that have allowed to become the success he is today. This led us to conduct a bit more research on them only to find out that most successful workers and entrepreneur have made the same habits a part of their lives. These 5 habits are:

1. Getting up early

This is one of the easiest habits to adopt but can also be the most daunting especially if you are used to staying up late at night. But as the saying goes, “the early bird gets the worm,” the earlier you wake up, the more time you have to get ready for the day. You can slowly work your way up to waking up earlier, to the point where you wake up at least 2 hours before you need to step out for work.

The reason why we say at least 2 hours is that you then have time to meditate or do some physical activity before you get into your morning routine. This will help you relax and gets the blood flowing in your mind and body. Then you have plenty of time to think of the day ahead and revise the goals you set out for the day. So you go to work knowing what needs to be done with a focused mindset. Waking up early also helps ensure that you can have a hearty breakfast to start off your day.

2. Learn to ask for help

One of the first things you find out when you start working is that you do not have the answer to everything. But even then, many still refuse to ask for help when they aren’t sure of something. There are numerous psychological reasons behind why it is difficult to ask for help but if you truly want to be successful, you need to overcome these.

Asking for help can get tasks done faster while ensuring they are done correctly. So, if you truly value your work you should never hesitate to ask for help. It doesn’t dent your ego in any way. But what it does do is it helps build trust and promote teamwork with your employees or colleagues. They know that you trust them for help and they can come to you for the same.

3. Be scheduled and flexible at the same time

It is important for you to have the day’s plan drawn out. This helps you stay organized and know what needs to be done and when. But the day doesn’t always go according to plan, so you need to be flexible to adapt and change with the circumstances of the day. In adopting such a habit, you increase the chance of success while also allow yourself to learn and grow more. Think about it, you don’t really grow when you have a rigid schedule each day, you instead just have a monotonous routine. Being flexible allows you that chance to change things up and learn more things by taking on unforeseen circumstances.

4. Keep a journal

Keeping a journal has numerous benefits, it allows you to track your daily work and progress, plan your goals and keep them in check, and allows you to analyze your daily on-goings. These are all important if you want to achieve success. You need to know what it is you are after and track your progress towards it.

Writing is also beneficial for your brain as it engages both sides of it along with your emotional reactivity. The habit, you will learn, will let you de-stress and be more in tuned with yourself emotionally. The process of keeping a journal lets you strive to live the life and gain success which you have set out to.

5. Sleep

There is no denying the impact of sleep on brain function. It also serves as a great way to de-stress from your day and allows your body to recuperate. Which is exactly why it is important for you to value your sleep. Now, the first habit we mentioned was to wake up early but that shouldn’t be at the expensive of sleep. You need to develop a habit to sleep earlier so you can wake up earlier.

Lack of sleep not only messes with your brain’s functioning, but it also has an impact on the physical and emotional aspects of the body. You are irritated more easily and just not as effective at work. To learn to value sleep is the same as learning to value yourself and your work.

Success is something we all strive for especially when it comes to the workplace. For those that have difficulty achieving success, it isn’t a matter if you don’t have it in you. It’s more about your habits and the need to adopt better ones that can help pave the way towards success. Something which the 5 habits listed above can certainly do.
