Sony Corporation (SNE) PS4 Sales Marginally Ahead Of Microsoft’s Xbox

Sony Corporation (TYO:6758) (NYSE:SNE) gaming consoles have outperformed Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) Xbox sales marginally in the current holiday season. It is expected that both companies would sell every single unit of the gaming consoles manufactured this holiday season as supply is short compared to the demand of gamers.

However, Sony and Microsoft would have to wither away the challenge that they will face next year when they start courting swing voters, says a report from NYTimes.

Sony marginally ahead

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) released a statement this week that it sold over two million Xbox One consoles since its launch “18 days ago”. Xbox One was launched for public sales on November 22. The company did not make it clear that whether the sales reached beyond two million on Monday or Wednesday, which would represent 20 days.

Sony Corporation (TYO:6758) (NYSE:SNE) sold around 2.1 million PlayStation 4, in just 17 days, after the product went on sales on November 15, which is marginally better than Microsoft’s Xbox one performance.

When compared from the price perspective, Sony does not appear to be a clear cut winner as PlayStation 4 is kept $100 cheaper than Microsoft Xbox One, which is priced at $500. Even after the considerable price difference Microsoft has managed to keep the difference minimum.

Both consoles unique in their own way

David Hutchinson, chief video games writer for The Times of London said that these two systems will keep the intense competition between Xbox and PlayStation alive over the next decade. This will work in favor of the gamers all around the world. The technology space has transformed massively since the first time when Microsoft and Sony collided with each other with their gaming consoles, and at that time smartphones and tablets were distant dreams.

Sony Corporation (TYO:6758) (NYSE:SNE) PS4 is recommended for those gamers who want social media features through which they can share their games status easily with the friends. On the other hand, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is flaunted as a multimedia machine, which is capable of performing and easily switching between different tasks like games, movie, music and application swiftly. Microsoft Xbox can be linked with the on-demand TV and movies, and can show various programs and apps including Skype, Netflix and Lovefilm.

Both gaming consoles are equipped with features like motion tracking and facial recognition, cameras and redesigned controllers.
