Smackdown Live is in the middle of the build-up for their next brand exclusive PPV event that will take place in less than three weeks. Backlash is shaping up to be a good show as the company took another step towards the event during this week’s edition of Smackdown Live. The show was good overall, not the greatest one, but not bad. Here are some of the things that were done well and some of the parts that needed to be better.
One of the best things on this show was WWE continuing to make Jinder Mahal look good. The segment in which he was taking pictures with the WWE title that he stole from Randy Orton last week was a nice way for him to continue working on that heel persona of his. Match that this guy had with Zayn was also well done as he needed to win against a legit opponent while Sami is not the one looking weak as he didn’t lose clean.
Breezango had a good comedy segment as they had a chance to show everybody who they are and what they are all about. Another thing that needs to be praised on this show is the opening segment with AJ Styles, Kevin Owens, and Y2J, the main event battle for the US Title as well as the entrance of Tye Dillinger.
Some of the things on which WWE needed to do a better job is the Women’s segment. The name “Welcoming Committee” for three of the women of Smackdown Live is God awful, and they need to change that. Ziggler vs. Sin Cara was a throwaway match while they also need to put Tye Dillinger in a feud as he still doesn’t have an opponent with just a couple of shows left until the Backlash PPV.
All in all, a solid show from the blue brand. We are going to rank it with 6.5 out of 10, which is enough for a B- grade.
