Deadpool 3 And X-Force – two very different projects

Deadpool nuts probably know, but for everyone else, back in November last year there was a report which stated that 20th Century Fox is already planning a Deadpool 3 movie, but that they are also making it revolve around the team of mutants known as X-Force. Unfortunately, as it is always a case with this kind of news, this one as well turned out to be false. Well, at least parts of it.

What is actually going on is that the Deadpool 3 will be made and right now it is in its early stages of development, but it is conceived as a contrast to the X-Force movie which is being developed simultaneously. This rumor was confirmed by producer/co-writer Rhett Reese who stated that “I also think it’s working in an expansive way towards X-Force, which will really be more of an ensemble. But then that will allow us to do both an X-Force movie and a Deadpool 3, which actually contracts back down”. Rhett Reese and his writing partner Paul Wernick chatted for a while, during the press day for their new movie Life, and they touched the topic of the implementation of new characters like Domino and Cable alongside the beloved ensemble in the first film. Reese explained that there is a character balance build inside the Deadpool which will also be transferred into their future work on X-Force.

When they mentioned Deadpool and X-Force in the same sentence, of course, they were asked if those two were a joint or separate project. Rhett Reese answered that the Deadpool 3 and X-Force will be totally different projects and that the Deadpool 3 will be a big-time team-up blockbuster while the X-Force will be somewhat toned down movie, similar to the 2016 hit. Reese explained that by saying “Yeah, Deadpool 3 would be different from X-Force. So I think we’ll be able to take two paths. One is where we’re launching something bigger, but then another where we’re contracting and staying personal and small. So I think best of all worlds, really”.

These are all good news indeed, but what Deadpool fans really want to see and hear is the fact that filmmakers realized that scaling up isn’t the best idea for the series. What they want is that everyone’s favorite Merc With The Mouth saves the world once again, but this time in the company of Cable, Domino and others from X-Force. One more thing is good to hear, and that is Deadpool having another title in his own series to continue the trend of more intimate narratives. The release date is still unknown, especially for Deadpool 3 and X-Force, and that is mainly because Deadpool 2 does not have an official release date as well. If Deadpool 2 wraps things up sometime at the end of this year or even in the first half of the next year, we could expect both Deadpool 3 and X-Force before 2024 (if Fox doesn’t rush things up). Until then you can enjoy something new from Rhett Reese, and Paul Wernick called Life, and it’s hitting theaters on Friday.
