According to some reports, the Audi A9 Coupe will hit the market in 2018. However, we don’t know too many details, so we will have to wait for the official announcement. The Audi A9 Coupe is a two-door version of the Audi A8 luxury car, and it was rumored to go on sale next year, but that seems to be postponed for 2018.

The production vehicle has not been presented yet. Unfortunately, we didn’t even have a chance to see the photos of the production version, so we can’t tell exactly how it will look like. What is comforting is that various sources claim that the Audi A9 Coupe is coming and we can only assume that the Audi Prologue Concept will serve as an inspiration to the new vehicle. This concept was displayed for the first time at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The Prologue attracted a lot of attention, and we could hear mostly positive feedback and both the press and public can get the general idea about the future looks of some Audi cars. When we say cars, we are talking about large Audis like the A6, A7, A8 and eventually A9. The grille has a trapezoidal look, and it’s a great addition to the aforementioned models, and as usual at the middle of the grille, we can see the Audi badge.

Design of the Audi A9 Coupe Concept

So far, there haven’t been any intriguing information about the design of the Audi A9. The LED headlights are sharp, and they are almost identical to those from the Audi TT or A4. Note that we had the chance to see the latest Matrix laser headlights on these vehicles, but we expect for new tech to be available in various models.

The Audi Prologue is definitely a concept which draws a lot of attention. The car looks aggressive and handsome, but despite that, it is also elegant as we are getting sharp lines in a vehicle that can be compared to Audi A5. It is slightly smaller than the current A8, but the concept still boasts more than enough space. We could see this one presented with 22-inch wheels, but the production model will most definitely come with the smaller ones.

The Cabin

The Prologue features Virtual Cockpit configurable instrument panel, which comes with even more features that are offered in some of the ongoing Audis. This is a terrific piece of technology because the passengers can talk with it and control it via smartphones. In addition, the Virtual Cockpit wants to make sure that everyone in the car feels comfortable so it might change the climate-control setting automatically. The new production Audi A9 should support some semi-autonomous features as well.

You will not get confused with all of the buttons because the new car will feature only a few. The passengers are going to have a chance to enjoy the minimalistic design in the cabin, which looks elegant, indeed. You can use voice, smartphone or three touchscreens to control the features in the Audi A9.

Competition, Engine, and Performance

Mercedes S-Class Coupe and Bentley Continental GT are definitely going to be bitter rivals of the Audi A9 once it hits the market. Another competitor may be the BMW 8 Series, which has been rumored to come back.

The Prologue concept has a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine that delivers 597 bhp. This unit is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power through AWD, and it can go from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.7 seconds which is an astonishing result. The emission of the concept is 199g/km of CO2, according to the German automaker. This means that if you owned the Audi A9, you would have to pay only £270 per year. Only one powerplant is available in the concept, but there is no doubt that once the vehicle goes on sale, the customers will have a choice of several engine options.

Audi A9 Coupe Release Date and Price

The new Audi A9 will most likely hit the market in 2018. We assume that the starting price of the new car will be at least £85,000, but this is only our opinion. We shall wait and see, so follow us for more details. Hopefully, we will obtain some concrete information soon.
