We recently acquired a set of spy photos of the newly redesigned 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE. This one represents a new mid-size luxury SUV model from the German car maker.

This current GLE was unveiled as the 2016 model but to be honest, it was simply an update of the M-Class that was introduced in 2012.

We can speculate that the redesigned version will be available in 2018 and offered to the market as 2019 model.

Some may wonder how we know that this is indeed a GLE. Well, take a look at its size and proportions and besides that one of the test vehicles has a ‘W167’ inscription on its rear. And the current GLE model bares the W166 code name in the factory.

Even though we can’t see much because of the heavy camouflage, we spotted a few important details like the different shape of headlights and the massive grille. One more thing that caught our attention was the more rugged look of the body consisting of the wide wheel arches that lead into a narrow cabin. That looks quite similar to models from the famous G-Class lineup.

When it comes to the interior, we concluded from the photo that the layout is similar to ones from the E-Class. The dashboard features a dual-screen design combined with a center console that has a touch screen which will probably serve as a controller for the COMAND infotainment system.

This 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE will be the second model to ride on the MHA platform for SUVs like GLC or bigger. This platform made its debut in the GLC and is closely connected to Mercedes’ MRA platform that can be found in most of the automaker’s sedans and coupes.

Power-wise we should see Mercedes’ next-gen inline-4 and -6 engines with the addition of a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 that is intended to be in Mercedes-AMG GLE63 variation. We should also see plug-in hybrid and diesel options, however, there are rumors that diesel ones won’t be shipped to America as the result of the Volkswagen’s diesel emissions episode. All-wheel drive and a 9-speed automatic transmission should be standard features on most models of the range.

If the company goes through and makes the profit on this SUV it is said that the GLE Coupe should be produced immediately after the introduction of the new GLE. Stay tuned for more info!
