Throughout the years we’ve seen a solid number of beautiful, futuristic and elegant supercars but McLaren really got our attention this time. When companies make supercars they strive for greatness. One of many things needed for greatness are power, beauty, passion, elegance and appeal. The new 2018 McLaren 720S Supercar doesn’t run short of anything mentioned above.

We’ve mentioned that a lot of power is needed for a decent supercar and for it to have great performances so this handsome bad boy can reach 60 mph in less than 3 seconds while its maximum is beyond 200 mph. We are bombarding you with these solid facts just so that you can imagine what this beast can do. Of course, power is not the only thing that matters. The body and overall looks of the car are astonishing as you can see for yourself from the photos. The lines are magnificently designed, and a lot of attention has been devoted to the aerodynamics.

2018 McLaren 720S Release Date and Price

How do we know all of this? Well, the 2017 Geneva Motor Show is to be blamed as McLaren revealed this beast during their presentation at the event. This car belongs to their Super Series, and its predecessor was 650S. The car will be available in May, and its price will probably be somewhere around $280,000.

People often say that what is not broken doesn’t need fixing so when McLaren designed this car they didn’t introduce many novelties except for the power. It is similar to the previous version from Super Series to some extent. However, the 2018 McLaren 720S has more power, just as its name implies. It is a two-seater that hides a new 4.0-liter twin turbo V-8 engine under the hood. When it comes to horsepower, this powerplant makes 710 hp and 568 pound-feet of torque. What is impressive is the fact that this engine revs up to 8,200 rotations per minute in the first gear and even more in later ones. Well, it is kind of true that solid and powerful sound means solid and powerful feeling.

The driveline has been modified. It is lowered by almost 5 inches so as to give better visibility to the driver and get this car a lower center of gravity. When it comes to clutch and transmission, here we have a 7-speed paddle-shifted dual-clutch transmission which is in charge of quick gear changes.

We mentioned that this car looks astonishing. Engineers made it perfect when it comes to aerodynamics. A-pillars and doors on this supercar direct air into a passage that cools the engine more efficiently than the previous 650S. Side ducting for the radiator was dropped since the 720S manages to stay cool on its own. More downforce was added by a new rear spoiler (30% according to McLaren). It also takes the role of an airbrake that can deploy in half of a second allowing even more impressive stopping performances.

When it comes to brakes, we have carbon-ceramic discs which are 15.4 inches up front and 15 inches in the back. Six-piston calipers also help the slowing down of this car, and the final result is that this one will stop almost as fast as the P1 hypercar.

McLaren also introduced the redesigned suspension system. The difference between this model and 650S is that now they implemented the second generation Proactive Chassis Control that is used to connect all four corners with hydraulically linked dampers instead of anti-roll bars. The computer controls the double-wishbones and independent dampers. This processor gathers data from suspension components and 12 other sensors around the car in order to react within the time gap of two milliseconds. What’s also interesting is that McLaren employed some of the University of Cambridge engineers for the computer algorithm. The company also introduced a ‘drift’ mode which is a part of the suspension system. It is similar to what Ford Focus RS has because it allows the driver to get an exact angle of slip before the computer regulates the car’s movement.

The 2018 McLaren 720S is almost 40 pounds lighter than its predecessor despite the new cabin comes covered in leather, more space for cargo and 8.0-inch touchscreen. That means that total weight is about 2,800 pounds. These facts guarantee that McLaren 720S is pretty much the quickest possible option when it comes to getting from one point to another.

It was a magnificent experience witnessing this engineering state of art miracle, and we are sure that buyers who opt for the 720S are in for a spectacle. If Gods were walking on Earth with us, they would surely consider this car if they wanted to go faster and look magnificent while at it.
