Hyundai has a clear goal when it comes to performance, and that is to produce cars which will compete in the market with the best vehicles, which is the reason why they established the N sub-brand. It has already been officially confirmed that the first N model will be based on the i30 hatchback or the Elantra GT for the US citizens. In a teaser video that was posted recently, we can hear what the new performance car sounds like.

Some of the largest rivals of the new i30 N are going to be Volkswagen GTI, Honda Civic Si, and Ford Focus ST. The new model will be equipped with a turbocharged I4 engine that will produce 246 hp in the base model and 271 hp in a track-focused variant, whereas only FWD configuration will be offered.

The man in charge of the team that is developing the new 2018 Hyundai i30 N is Albert Biermann, a former BMW M engineering boss. It has been a while since they started with the development of this car and one of the test mules was even in the 2016 Nurburgring 24 Hours race, but it finished 90th overall. Hopefully, the model has improved since then.

The new i30 N will make an official debut at the 2017 Frankfurt Auto Show in September, but it will not be sold on the US market. The US customers and fans will not end up empty-handed as an enhanced version of the Elantra sedan is expected to arrive.

The performance division is named “N, ” and if you didn’t know, that letter stands for the Hyundai’s Namyang R&D center that is located in Hwaseong, South Korea. Moreover, they wanted to pay respect to the Nurburgring where the company plans to develop most of its performance models.
